Reparation Thoughts
….By His Wounds we are healed
Volume XXIII, Number 11
Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,
Mother Mary Rose Therese, our Foundress, had a sincere and profound love for Our Blessed Mother. She chose ‘Mary’ in her religious name to honor her. Part of her birth name was a derivative of ‘Mary’. The day never passed without her fervent completion of the rosary. On one occasion, she had major surgery. The anesthesiologist told us that she was saying the Hail Mary as he began anesthesia. The entire long surgery took place and when she began to come out of the anesthesia, she finished the Hail Mary! Such was her fond dependence on the Blessed Virgin Mary. In Mary’s example, Mother Therese formed the actions of her own life.
The month of October is dedicated to Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. We should be striving to pray the Rosary every day during this month if it is not our usual pattern to do so. What is the Rosary but an unfolding of simple, well-known prayers as we meditate on events in the Life of Christ. There are four sets of Mysteries which include Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Illuminous occasions while He walked and taught and opened for us the way to heaven!
There, within this extraordinary example, we can find hope, courage, patience, endurance for any aspect of our own lives. Jesus shows us the way, the truth and the life! Mary, His beloved Mother, walks beside Him and joins as the Co-Redemptrix of all grace. Through her confident hands comes the life-giving sustenance to support us on our journey through the trials, worries, pains, and exuberances of our lives.
I would like to suggest a simple prayer practice for you. Suppose today, something very sad happens and you appropriately respond with sorrow. It is hurtful and pain fills your heart. Think of one of the sorrowful mysteries that seems similar to your own sorrow and say one decade of the rosary meditating upon that mystery. Join your pain, your fear, your loss with Jesus and Mary in their own pain. This is a form of Reparational love and it can be extremely healing! Similarly, suppose something wonderful happens to lighten your heart and soul today. Think of a joyful or luminous mystery that may be similar. Say one decade of the rosary meditating upon that mystery. It will give you an opportunity for thanksgiving to God and extend the beauty of the joy that has been yours. This, too, is a form of Reparational love that brings about healing. For myself, this practice helps me to see the reality of my circumstances and lightens my burden or increases my joy by knowing that Jesus and Mary already walked a similar path for me and my salvation.
Time passes so quickly yet throughout every moment of every day God is there with us. Our Guardian Angel is at our side. Mary, Our Mother is watching over us. We often allow countless hours to pass without recognition of these great treasures. Mary believed in God’s inscrutable plans. She trusted. She had faith. Heaven is where we are headed. So, must we trust. So, must we believe. So, must we pray!
