Reparation Thoughts
….By His Wounds we are healed
Volume XXIV, Number 4
Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,
We have completed much of our Lenten journey and are nearing the most solemn days. This time of spiritual renewal is very important to us who are called to understand more fully “reparation to the Sacred Wounds of Jesus”. As humans, we are sinners. If we strive to avoid serious sin, we are desirous of a greater level of holiness—a closer relationship with our beloved God. Lent is a time to encounter Him more perfectly.
Throughout these days, readings have brought us into parable examples of humankind at all its stages. We read of the rich young man who could not bare the thought of poverty; and the woman caught in adultery who was forgiven and told to sin no more; the blind man who was given sight and the leper who was made clean; and the stoning of Jesus for speaking of His own identity. Jesus would say to “have faith in God; have faith also in ME.” He compels us to make a choice and seek what it means to be Christian.
Am I using these Lenten days to look inward and realize the many ways I could advance toward the Kingdom? Have I truly repented? Am I faithful to my promises? Have I quietly gained in my relationship with the Lord? Am I a person of forgiveness? Do I criticize unjustly? How generous have I been to my church? Are my sacrifices worthy for the gifts I have received? If I stood before a judge, could I be rightly accused of being a practicing Catholic Christian?
We still have time. Jesus awaits us in the Most Blessed Sacrament. His Mother Mary is anxious to hear our pleas through her Rosary. Even one meaningful decade or just fifteen minutes before the Blessed Sacrament could change our attitude, our behaviors, and our peace of mind. These are gifts just waiting for us to receive and accept.
A stanza from the writing of St. John of the Cross says: “O woods and thickets, planted by the hand of my Beloved! O green meadow, coated bright with flowers, tell me, has He passed by you?”
Meadows, flowers, forms of nature---all these await us in natural and spiritual ways. They grow from our everyday life, and He comes to us through them. Has He passed?
