Reparation Thoughts

….By His Wounds we are healed

Volume XXIII, Number 3

Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,

“The Church’s foundation is unshakable and firm against the assaults of the raging sea. Although the elements of this world constantly batter and crash against her, she offers the safest harbor of salvation for all in distress.” Words of St. Ambrose

Before going into surgery, I had received the Sacrament of the Sick, gone to confession, attended Mass and received Holy Communion. With this on board, I had the confidence to know I was ready. Why? Believe me, there are many answers to this simple question but the one most obvious is that we have been given the gift of our Holy Catholic Church which includes grace, sacraments, the Eucharist, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and Bishops who carry the authority from the Apostolic Line of Succession from St. Peter to administer those powerful spiritual gifts to us through ordained priests.

I know that when I attend the Mass, I am participating with Christ at the Last Supper and His Death and Resurrection. Christ is present through the persona of the bishops and priests. I could not be more blessed! I also know that when I am in the Presence of the Most Blessed Sacrament, time holds me fast in His Presence and I am being drawn into Him and receiving endless spiritual gifts to carry me through the burdens and challenges of every day.

Before surgery, my surgeon prayed with me placing everything into the care of our Beloved Lord, the Divine Physician. Through these powerhouses of prayer, I knew that Jesus would guide the hands of my surgeon and his team of specialists and allow my own body to respond as necessary toward healing and recovery. Jesus, I trust in You!

This is the way I have learned to embark upon each day as a Christian. I am reminded that God is the power over the world He created. God loves us with a love that surpasses anything we could imagine. He has left Himself right here through the Holy Eucharist. Think about it. God has placed Himself into consecrated bread so that we could be in His physical Presence any time we need. There He waits patiently for us to come and receive. This is true heavenly love. This is gift beyond compare. It is incomparable for us to fully grasp. Yet, it is true!

“Our Lord does not come from Heaven every day to stay in a golden ciborium. He comes to find another Heaven, the Heaven of our soul in which He loves to dwell.” Words of St. Therese of Lisieux
