Reparation Thoughts

….By His Wounds we are healed

Volume XXIII, Number 13

Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,

The Season of Advent is a glorious and thorough way to open a new Church Year. Within it we are given reflections considering the end times; the important mission of St. John the Baptist; an anticipation for the coming of the Savior; all accomplished with a loyalty to our Jewish roots.

While in a checkout line on a chilly wintery day, the gentleman behind me commented: “You look like a Jew!” I mentioned what Mary Jo Tully always expressed: “Scratch a Catholic and you will get Jewish blood!” He laughed and asked if I would be playing at a Midnight Mass. I responded and told him where and that he would be most welcome. He then explained that he was a Jew but gave himself the “treat to attend Midnight Mass each year!” Wow! We have beautiful, strong, forthright connections to our history. It seems appropriate to share thoughts with you from our liturgical Advent readings for this reflection.

“Behold, the Lord will descend with splendor to visit His people with peace, and He will bestow on them eternal life.” “The Lord comes to save His people; blessed are those prepared to meet Him.”

Luke 3:4,6 “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight His paths: All flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

Psalm 85:9-14 “Let the clouds rain down the Just One, and the earth bring forth a Savior.”               Psalm 106 “Come, O Lord, visit us in peace, that we may rejoice before You with blameless heart.”

Psalm 25: 8-9 “Good and upright is the Lord; thus, He shows sinners the way. He guides the humble to justice, He teaches the humble His way.”

Revelations 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, and My recompense is with Me, says the Lord, to bestow a reward according to the deeds of each.”

Phil. 3: 20-21 “We await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who will change our mortal bodies, to conform with His glorified body.”                                                                                                        Cor. 4-5 “The Lord will come, and He will not delay. He will illumine what is hidden in darkness and reveal Himself to all the nations.”

Isaiah 40: 1-5 “Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated; indeed, she has received from the hand of the Lord double for all her sins. A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! Every valley shall be filled, every mountain and hill made low; the rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough country, a broad valley. Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all the people shall see it together; the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Isaiah: Luke “A branch shall sprout from the root of Jesse, and the glory of the Lord will fill the whole earth, and all flesh will see the salvation of God.”

Galatians 4:4 “Behold, when the fullness of time had come, God sent His Son into the world.”

Revelations 3:20 “I stand at the door and knock: if anyone hears My Voice and opens the door to Me, I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with ME.”
